Team Gringo Survives Ike

Just a quick note to let you all know that we have come through Category 5 Hurricane Ike.

We'll post up as soon as we can. When we can get out, we'll "soak up" some images! Remarkably, we have power..!!!!

Thank you for the comments, prayers and support. They clearly paid off.

Thanks so much for sharing your experiences so vividly. We have a trip aboard the Explored II scheduled for September 20 and I was looking for a local account of the status following Hannah.

Be safe, and if we do make it for our trip we'd love to give both of you a big hug.

Thank God, you have been in my prayers. If you recall, we spoke via email in May of this year. We have a home on Salt Cay. I fear we have nothing left. Stay safe.

Sounds to me like Grand Turk was hit pretty hard and most likely Salt Cay was too. We'll post anything we can find out.

Word is trickling in around Provo and it looks as though there is not a lot of flooding and we heard only slightly more damage done to our house than Hanna had already bestowed. We're heading out shortly to see for ourselves.

It's been quite a week..!! Gringo has suggested that perhaps we'd like to take a nice, relaxing vacation somewhere say... like on the lip of an active volcano!!

Ain't he a stitch?? :-D

My God - as I opened this blog this morning the TV news here showed images of TCI - the report says 80% of buildings have been damaged.

Hope you guys are as OK as possible. You've had a hell time.

Hello Gringo and LaGringa,

What refreshing news to hear all is better than expected. I am sure you've had plenty of spiritual support and thoughts from many people. sorry to hear about your boat but happy you are well and stayed safe thru the night with Dooley. The hours must have seemed like days. Best wishes for a quick recovery to all of the TC residents!

Gringos - so glad you made it through. I was watching the hurricane all day Saturday and am very happy. You will have to let us know how the house did.

Yes, what a relief! I am so glad to hear you guys are safe. I am looking forward to seeing the pictures. I saw a video from another resident of TCI on youtube. He was driving down the road filming (before Ike/after Hanna) and I swear I saw you guys pulling out! I wondered if you knew him..he is from Canada I believe. Give Dooley a hug for me!

The week you've just been through, and you'd still rather head for the lip of an active volcano than the rat race and cold weather.

Glad to see you've made it through.

Wow was I glad to see that you guys are OK. I checked this morning not expecting to see anything new.

If you find a local charity doing good thinks for the TCI survivors, post it up. I'll send a few $$$ their way.

Hi there,

Happened upon your blog by chance, glad to hear you are ok. We are very anxious to see some more pics of Ike's aftermath. My wife and I have a boat in the Caicos Marina Shipyard. Noticed you had some photos of the dive boat and what happened to it during Hanna, curious as to whether you have seen how things look now? Hope this finds you doing as well as can be expected, good luck!
